My Superheroes Wear Crowns

When I first came across the quote, "Most superheroes wear capes, but mine wear crowns," I felt something shift.

In an instant, I was transported — faces flashing through my mind. Brave, brilliant, courageous women I’ve met across the years. Some loud, some quiet. Some celebrated, others unsung. But all of them warriors in their own right.

I’ve always spoken about crowns — about remembering your worth, about standing tall, even when life tries to pull you down. You’ll often hear me say things like “Straighten your crown,” or “Act like a queen.” It’s more than a phrase — it’s a mindset. It’s how we rise, especially when the world expects us to shrink.

My superheroes don’t wear capes. They wear crowns. And more often than not, they’re women over 50 who are rewriting what it means to grow older — with power, with grace, with bold, unapologetic energy.

These women are the heartbeat of The Collective. They remind me — and I hope they remind you — that it’s never too late to start something new, to rise again, or to become the most powerful version of yourself.

A dear friend (and one of my very own superheroes) tagged me in this quote by Elizabeth Gilbert:

“The women who I love and admire for their strength and grace did not get that way because shit worked out. They got that way because shit went wrong, and they handled it. They handled it in a thousand different ways on a thousand different days — but they handled it. Those women are my superheroes.”

Yes. That.

This series — this space — is my way of honouring them. Sharing their stories. Giving voice to their strength. Offering recognition to the ones who often carry everything and yet go unseen.

Because not all heroes wear capes.

Some wear lipstick. Some wear blazers. Some wear grief. Some wear love. But all of them wear a crown.
